For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese  language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries. the Center For Language Education   And   Cooperation   (CLEC)   will   continue   with  the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.  Confucius Institutes,  independently operated Confucius Classrooms,  certain HSK test centers,  Chinese language  (education) departments of foreign universities,   professional associations for Chinese  language instruction   of other countries,   Chinese embassies   (consulates)   abroad   (collectively “ recommending       institutions” )       may       recommend       outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Chinese universities and colleges (“host institutions”).

I. Qualification of Candidate

1. Non-Chinese citizens;

2. Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school；

3. Applicants shall be in good physical and mental health, with good academic performance and conduct;

4. Applicants shall be committed to the Chinese language education and related work；

5. Applicants shall be between the ages of 16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2021). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45.

III. Scholarship Coverage

International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship includes: tuition, accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week’s scholarship students excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance for international students studying in China. Living allowance standard is as follows:

a. CNY 2,500 for One-Academic-Year Students and One-Semester Students.

b. CNY 3,000 for Master’s Degree Students.

IV. The Application Deadline

1. April 15th (Study starts in July )；

2. May 15th (Study starts in September)；

3. September 15th (Study starts in December)；

4. November 15th (Study starts in March 2024)；

V. The Application Process

1. Starting from March 1st, 2023 , Applicants must log into the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship(ICLTS) application website  (http://cis.chinese.cn ), fill out the “International Chinese Language  Teachers  Scholarship  Application  Form”,  and  attach  electronic,  scanned  copies  of required documents; At the same time applicants should also do the same procedures on Henan University Application System (http://applyonline.henu.edu.cn/member/login.do).

2. Contact and  select  the  recommending  institutions,  applicants  can  visit  the  International Chinese  Language  Teachers  Scholarship       website  (http://cis.chinese.cn)  to  inquire  about  and select the recommending institutions.

3. Recommending  institutions  review  and  recommend  qualified  students  to  study  at  our school;

4. Our school  examines the admission qualifications of applicants and conducts  merit-based pre-admission;

5. CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be made based on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before school starts.

After confirming the intention of studying abroad, our school will post the Admission Notice and other materials for admission. Students can print the scholarship certificate online.

VI. Policies Regarding Currently Employed Chinese Language Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Recipients

1. Currently employed Chinese language teachers

Currently employed Chinese language teachers applying for the scholarships who can provide proof of employment and a recommendation letter from the teaching institute do not need to provide HSK certificates.

2. Chinese Bridge winners

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate shall log onto the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their scholarship certificates.

VII. Application Materials

1. For all applicants

a.  Scanned copy of your passport photo page.

b.  Scanned copy of your HSK, HSKK result report (within the two-year validity).

c. Recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions.

2.For degree scholarship program applicants

a.  A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

b.  Applicants  of the Scholarship for MTCSOL students are required to provide  2  reference letters  from professors or associate professors.  Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.

3. Applicants  currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.

4. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

5. Applicants shall also provide additional documents as follows：

a.  A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician,  the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

b.  Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
