I. Brief Introduction
Located in Kaifeng, a famous historic city which used to be the capital of China during eight different dynasties, Henan University, founded in 1912, was originally named as Preparatory School for Further Study in Europe and America. Henan University stood together with Tsinghua Preparatory School for Further study in America (Tsinghua University) and Shanghai Nanyang Public School (Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xi’an Jiao Tong University) just like three legs of a tripod, Henan University was one of the three major schools to prepare students for international study. Its name went through several changes including Zhongzhou University (1923), Henan Zhongshan University (1927), Provincial Henan University (1930), National Henan University and so on. In the 1940s Henan University had developed into an influential comprehensive university with 6 schools. Afterwards, passing the Kaifeng Normal University and Henan Normal University period, the name Henan University was restored in 1984. On October 17, 2008, Henan University formally entered the list of the universities which are jointly developed by the provincial government and the Ministry of Education; in September 2016, Henan University was selected in the “111 Plan”; and in September 2017, Henan University becomes a “Double First-rate” university.
It has established friendly relationship with more than 120 colleges in more than 40 countries and has become a member of the World Association of Universities and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific. Henan University now has 50,000 students (including 10,000 graduate students and doctoral students, 700 international students), more than 4,300 faculties and staffs, including 14 Specialists and part-time academicians, and more than 1,700 professors and associate professors. Now Henan University is a comprehensive university with 12 branches of learning. At present, Henan University has more 33 Schools (Departments), 97 undergraduate programs, 43 primary discipline Master’s programs, 24 professional Master’s programs, 20 primary discipline doctoral programs and has 15 doctoral research centers. Henan University is home to a National Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology, Nanometer Hybrid Materials Applied Technology National Local Engineering Research Center, Efficient Display and Lighting Technology National Local Engineering Research Center and Antibody Drug Development Technology National Local Engineering Laboratory, 3 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education: Key Laboratory of Special Functional Materials, Key Laboratory of Plant Stress Biology, and Yellow River digital geographic Technology Laboratory as well as an Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, 1 Ministry of Education Engineering Technology Research Center, 4 Provincial Collaborative Innovation Centers. Moreover, there are 5 National Education and Research Bases here: the Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development Research Center of the Ministry of Education, a National Teacher Training Base of Physical Education and Art, a Key Research Base of Social Sciences and Sports Sciences of the National Sports Bureau, National Base of College Student Quality Education, and Chinese Base of Excellent Culture and Art Heritage. There are publishers and various academic publications. The library has 5.2 million paper books and more than 7 million electronic books. The campus has a total area of 2.2 million square meters and a construction area of 1.47 million square meters. Among them, Minglun campus modern architecture group is a national key cultural relic’s protection unit.

II. A Brief Introduction of ISCLC，Henan University
Henan University began teaching Chinese as a second language since 1985, and gradually developed to accept international students at all levels including long-term and short-term scholars, bachelors, masters, and PhDs. By now, it has admitted more than 4500 international students from more than 40 countries including Japan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Thailand, Mongolia, Germany, America, Australia, Russia, Vietnam, Nepal, Canada, Israel, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Ghana and so on.
International School for Chinese Language and Culture (ISCLC) is the special department which is not only responsible for international students’ recruitment and administration, but also for Chinese Language and Culture teaching affairs in Henan University. It has more than 30 teachers, including part-time ones. 6 of them are professors, 8 of them are vice-professors and 6 of them have a doctor’s degree. All of the full-time teachers have the Certificate for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language given by the Ministry of Education. All of them have the experience of teaching abroad. During the more than 20 years’ Chinese-teaching to international students, the ISCLC has accumulated a rich teaching experience and achieved a satisfactory result. International students who entered our college improved their Chinese language level rapidly.
Henan University is the Test Center for the Chinese Proficiency Test (New HSK and New HSKK) which was launched by Hanban. According to the needs of the international students, the New HSK Exam and the New HSKK Exam can be held monthly.

Study Chinese traditional martial arts and basic Chinese.

Twice a year, in spring and autumn respectively. The spring class starts at the end of February or the beginning of March; the autumn class starts on 1st, September.
Chinese language & culture
Compulsory courses: comprehensive Chinese, spoken Chinese, listening, writing, Chinese culture, audiovisual. Optional courses: calligraphy, Chinese painting, martial arts, Chinese folk music, Chinese history, ancient literature, ancient Chinese, Character writing, business Chinese, news listening, audiovisual and discussion, HSK training. Touring within Henan Province will be organized on the weekends.
Compulsory courses are held in the mornings from Monday to Friday, 20 periods per week, and optional courses in the afternoons.

VI. Teaching and Accommodation Apparatus
Teaching facility
Classroom
14 classrooms, 7 of which are multimedia ones, 5 are language labs and 2 are computer rooms. All the classrooms are equipped with an air conditioner (cool and warm) and heating apparatus.
Apparatus & Materials
There are TV sets, video recorder, DVD machines, recorders, etc. for teaching. Various reference books and HSK tutoring materials are available.
Living and Service Facility
Boarding
Each room covers 16m2. They are equipped with:（1）separate bathroom and geothermic hot water for 24 hours ；（2）TV set, telephone, internet facility；（3）air conditioner, heating apparatus.
Dining
There is a public kitchen on each floor of the dormitory building, which is free. There are also student restaurants in the campus and a few restaurants nearby. So it is quite convenient for dining.
Living
There are public washing machines and refrigerators in the dormitory building. There are also stores and supermarkets. Banks on the campus can store and convert currency for international students.
Transportation
International students can be picked up by the staff at the airport, but the expense is paid by the students themselves. It takes only 50 minutes from Henan University to Xinzheng International Airport (Zhengzhou) by bus. The campus is five kilograms away from Kaifeng train station, and students can get there by bus directly from the campus.
Others
In this University, there are many sports facilities such as sports grounds, gymnasium, tennis playground, pingpong rooms, football grounds, rooms for bodybuilding, etc. There are also many service agencies like hospital, post office, etc. (There will be fees charged in accordance with school’s regulations)
