On November 10th, 2012, Confucius Institute of University of Akron successfully held the first new YCT. Six junior high school students nearby Akron attended YCT (). New YCT (Youth Chinese Test) is an international Chinese ability standardized test to examine the ability of using Chinese in daily life and study of primary and secondary school students whose first language is not Chinese. By holding YCT, Confucius Institute hopes to arouse the Chinese-learning passion of nearby students and make more children love learning Chinese.

This is the second test after Confucius Institute joined North America Chinese Test. The first was held on May 20th, and the test levels were band three and four.
