Overseas students form ISCLC in Henan University experienced winter solstice by making dumplings.

The auspicious snow danced in the air on December 21 and teachers and students of the International School for Chinese Language and Culture in Henan University gathered together to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival- winter solstice. In order to help the students from abroad to achieve a better understanding of Chinese traditional culture and customs, the faculty organized students from America, Canada, Japan, Mongolia, Thailand, Egypt , Comorin and other countries to experience the activity of making dumplings on the winter solstices.

Under the teachers’ demonstration, the students set about making dumplings themselves. They learned from each other and amused each other every now and then, which filled the whole restaurant with joy and happiness.

Guo Lina, who came from South Korea, said“eating dumplings on winter solstice impressed us a lot about Chinese traditional festival and also help us overseas students enhance our friendship”.“I will try my best to learn how to make decent dumplings, and bring this craft to America”the American girl Lu Sha told her teacher. Zhang Xiaoying from Thailand commented“it’s a really difficult job for us overseas students who had never done this kind of things before, but we really had a happy experience in China for we had learned not only Chinese and but also the Chinese traditional customs”.

This activity really offered a good chance for the overseas students to know Chinese traditional culture. Moreover, it provided a platform for both Chinese and foreign students on which they could freely communicate with each other, learn from each other, and promote their friendship.
