Scholarship Students in Confucius Institute Visited Wood Engraving Pictures, Mosque and Yue Fei Temple in Zhuxianzhen

On the morning of December 8th, ISCLC organized scholarship students in Confucius Institute from America, Russia, Korea, Romania, Cameroon, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand and Laos to Zhuxianzhen, Kaifeng to visit wood engraving pictures, mosque and Yue Fei temple.

By the guide’s interpretation, students had the first understanding of the historical role of Yue Fei in China and the historical origin of Zhuxianzhen and Yue Fei temple. Then they went to the mosque in Zhuxianzhen, the 6th national cultural relic protection unit, to experience wood carving and brick carving art. By close appreciation and the guide’s interpretation, students got more knowledge about the wish to extend the family and pursue individual happiness and longevity in Chinese traditional culture implicating in wood and brick carving.

At last, students went to Tiancheng New Year’s Picture in Zhuxianzen. Yin Guofa, the 5th heir of Tiancheng New Year’s Picture, warmly received them. He explained the historical origin of Zhuxianzhen’s pictures in detail, showed the simple process of picture producing and invited students to make pictures themselves. They all practiced in person and made a black-and-white “Six boys playing” wood engraving picture.

The experience deepened students’ understanding of Chinese traditional culture and art, and aroused their interest in learning Chinese culture.
